Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney used the word ?conservative? 19 times in his much-anticipated Conservative Political Action Conference speech Friday afternoon.
It doesn?t appear to be an accident, with the former Massachusetts governor using the speech to make the argument to skeptical conservatives that he?s one of them. At one point, Romney even said, ?I was a severely conservative Republican governor.?
Romney?s speech was full of red meat for the conservative activists at the Marriott Wardman hotel in Washington. Here are his top 6 lines:
1. ?I served in government, but I didn?t inhale.?
2. ?We should acknowledge President Obama, the conservative movement?s top recruiter. Turns out, he really is a great community organizer. Although, I don?t think we were the community he had in mind.?
3. ?History will record the Obama Presidency as the last gasp of liberalism?s great failure and a turning point for a new conservative era.?
4. ?I know this president will never get it, but we conservatives aren?t just proud to cling to our guns and to our religion. We are also proud to cling to our Constitution!?
5. ?Barack Obama is the poster child for the arrogance of government.?
6. ?On my watch, we fought hard and prevented Massachusetts from becoming the Las Vegas of gay marriage.?
