Happy beach-goers in China don?t let terrifyingly green algae stop them from having some fun in the sun. For the past six summers, the algae has turned the Yellow Sea green and this year is the largest algal bloom yet, covering 11,158 square miles. While the gross-looking stuff isn?t toxic to humans or animals, the green carpet blocks sunlight from entering the ocean and depletes it of oxygen, suffocating marine life. It?s thought the algae may have something to do with pollution from agriculture and industry.
