Butler named 2012 Realtor of the Year

PROVIDENCE ? Jeffrey A. Butler, of Coventry, broker/owner of Butler Realty Group, with offices in Warwick, has been named 2012 Realtor of the Year by the R.I. Commercial and Appraisal Board of Realtors. In making the award, the organization said, ?this prestigious award is based on Butler?s outstanding contributions and his leadership in the real estate industry.?

Butler serves as treasurer of RICABOR, where he has been a member since its inception in 1985. He is also treasurer of the R.I. Statewide MLS, a member service organization of over 4,000 real estate licensees, where Butler has been a board member since 2008 and MLS member since 1977. Butler serves on the Commercial Information Exchange Task Force at MLS and has been instrumental in researching and negotiating a proposed platform that will enhance commercial listing and sales data in the R.I. and southern New England market area.

He has been a member of the Realtor Association since 1977, with steadily increasing involvement throughout that time. He has been member of the Central R.I. Chamber of Commerce since the 1980s and currently serves on the Board of Directors, and on the ?Restoring the Victorial Lady? Building Committee. He is a member of the Johnson?s Pond Civic Association, and the International Executives Association, R.I. Chapter, where he has served on its board of directors, and held the position of president.

The R.I. Commercial and Appraisal Board is focused on bringing commercial practitioners and real estate appraisers quality programming, educational options, political advocacy and networking opportunities.

Washington Trust names Pickering senior VP

WESTERLY ? Washington Trust has hired Timothy M. Pickering, a former senior vice president of Commercial Real Estate for Citizens Bank, as senior vice president of Commercial Real Estate Lending. Pickering, of Essex, Conn., joins Suzanne Walsh, Commercial Real Estate Vice President, in Washington Trust?s Commercial Real Estate Group activities in the Connecticut market area.

Pickering will be responsible for identifying commercial real estate mortgages including refinancing, acquisition, re-development and construction of various property types including multi-family, retail, office, industrial and hotels in Connecticut and Westchester County, New York.

Prior to joining Washington Trust, Pickering served as senior vice president of Commercial Real Estate for Citizens Bank in Middletown, Conn., for the past 15 years. He also has more than 12 years of commercial real estate lending experience with BankBoston, Citytrust and the Irving Trust Company.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Pickering holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania?s Wharton School of Business. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Essex Historical Society and is a former board member of the Nehemiah Housing Corporation. He is also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Shoreline Soup Kitchen.


Cournoyer named VP at Cox Communications

W. WARWICK ? Cox Communications has appointed Jeff Cournoyer vice president of Business Operations for Cox Communications? New England-Cleveland region. Cournoyer will be responsible for leading the Finance team and Supply Chain, Real Estate and Loss Prevention operations in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Ohio.

Cournoyer, a CPA, joined Cox in 2000 as director of Business Operations and most recently served as interim VP of the department. During his 12-year tenure with the company, he has built a solid background in accounting, financial planning and analysis, field audit and supply chain management. He has initiated and led several key supply chain initiatives and strategic planning processes to drive operational efficiencies in the organization.

Cournoyer, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Bryant College, resides with his wife and daughter in North Smithfield.

Cox Communications is a broadband communications and entertainment company, providing advanced digital video, Internet and telephone services over its own nationwide IP network.


Mystic Chamber seeks employer award nominations

MYSTIC ? The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominations for the Employer of the Year and the Community Service awards which are presented at the Annual Dinner Dec. 6 at The Mystic Marriott Hotel Spa. Award nomination forms can be downloaded from the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce?s website.

The Community Service Award is awarded to a special individual or organization for outstanding service to the community of Greater Mystic.


Clarification

A Business Spotlight item in last Sunday?s edition did not include the full description of the position of Bill Lidestri, Chelsea Groton Bank?s new senior vice president, director of Operations and Technology.

Lidestri will be responsible for the management of the bank?s deposit operation activities to ensure the best interest of customers, employees and the public.
