Democratic proposal seeks campaign finance change | KTOO

Minority House Democrats have introduced a measure opposing unlimited spending in political campaigns.

Seven Democrats have signed on to HJR8, which calls on Congress and the president to work to amend the U.S. Constitution so that unions and corporations cannot make unlimited donations supporting or opposing candidates.

Rep. Les Gara, in his sponsor statement, says that these donations ?distort? the political process.

The 2012 general election was the most expensive in U.S. history, costing a total of $5.8 billion according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Members of the Democratic minority in the Senate have introduced a similar measure on that side.
