Foul odor from home led to finding 3 Ohio bodies

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) ? An Ohio mayor says a foul odor emanating from a home led to the discovery of the first of three bodies in a Cleveland suburb.

East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton said Sunday that a call to police Friday led authorities to a home, where they engaged in a standoff with a 35-year-old man.

Norton says the man is now in custody and suspected of killing three people in about 10 days.

Two more bodies were found Saturday in separate locations in the neighborhood. Each was wrapped in plastic bags.

The mayor says the suspect has indicated he might have been influenced by the earlier case of a Cleveland serial killer convicted of 11 women's deaths.

Police on Sunday resumed searching through weeds and vacant houses for possibly more bodies.
