Volunteers and donors are needed to help fill and pack 800 packages for troops serving overseas.

Buckeye Military Moms, a group of mothers with children serving or who have served, will pack the boxes from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 27, at Sharon Memorial Hall, 137 E. Granville Road.

They need help in the form of packers, money and items to go into the packages to be sent to troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa and other conflict areas.

It is important for these men and women to know they have not been forgotten, said Paula Dolsen Lombardo, president of Chapter 9/Buckeye Military Moms.

Unopened items that could be included in the care package are Pringles, corn chips, Cheetos, hard candy in single-serving snack sizes, nuts, beef jerky, batteries, foot powder, hand sanitizers, baby wipes and other items.

Financial support also is needed to help get the packages to their destination. Each box costs up to $14.85 to ship, and it costs an average of $25-$30 for items that are placed inside each box.

Donated items may be dropped off at the Worthington Fire Department, 6500 N. High St. Donors and volunteers also may contact the Blue Star Mothers to have items picked up. The group's email address is bluestarmothers9@gmail.com.

Items also may be brought to the packing event, where lots of help will be needed.
